SRO GT Cup set for 2025 launch

SRO GT Cup set for 2025 launch

> Four-round GT4 sprint series aimed at domestic Chinese market
> Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix and Beijing Street Circuit confirmed for inaugural campaign

A new China-based GT4 championship – the SRO GT Cup – will launch in 2025.

A total of eight 30-minute sprint races, each featuring one driver per car, will be staged across four events from March onwards. Two races will take place per weekend.

The season begins in Shanghai where SRO GT Cup occupies one of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix’s official support slots before the championship joins GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS at the new Beijing Street Circuit.

Two more venues, which will be announced early in 2025, complete the inaugural campaign.

Drivers with either FIA Bronze or Silver gradings are eligible to compete in any currently homologated GT4 car. SRO’s renowned Balance of Performance and sporting environment will also ensure comparable standards to those seen in other SRO championships all over the world.

SRO expects to welcome 20-car grids for the inaugural season, entries for which open on January 9.

SRO Motorsports Asia General Manager Benjamin Franassovici: “This is an incredibly exciting new chapter for SRO in Asia and China particularly. Many of the country’s biggest teams and most experienced drivers are now competing in GT World Challenge Asia and beyond, but there remains a big and somewhat untapped market for aspiring amateurs, young pros and national-level teams who wish to race closer to home. Macau’s GT4 event, which attracted a 25+ entry last month, is an excellent example of this.

“I am confident that our format and mix of high-profile events will provide a desirable but also accessible alternative to the current domestic offering.”

Race results will also count towards SRO’s GT4 Manufacturer Ranking, a global title awarded to the world’s top performing GT4 brand at the end of each season. SRO GT Cup joins its Asian counterpart, the Japan Cup, on a list also featuring continental and national series in Europe, America and Australia.
