GT1 Sports Club Powered by Curbstone Events is set for an expanded three-event schedule in 2022 after confirming meetings at Circuit Paul Ricard, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Yas Marina.
It follows a successful launch last October when Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya played host to an incredible array of hyper-sports cars from the world's leading manufacturers. The star-studded entry list included the McLaren Senna GTR, Porsche 935, Lamborghini SCV12, Ferrari FXX-K Evo and Pagani Zonda Revolución, all of which ventured on to the circuit ahead of Sunday’s title-deciding Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS race before running a full schedule on Monday.
Following a positive response to the inaugural event, an expanded series of three meetings has been confirmed for 2022. Two of these will run alongside Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS weekends, with the first taking GT1 Sports Club to Circuit Paul Ricard on 4-5-6 June. Located close to France's Mediterranean coast, the venue combines world-class facilities with a challenging high-speed layout, making it the ideal place to explore the limits of a hyper or super track car.
The second stop will take GT1 Sports Club back to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The opening session will once again run on Sunday, ahead of the season-deciding Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS race, with cars enjoying further track time on Monday. As an FIA Grade 1 venue, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provides top-end facilities and a technical layout that tests driver skill and car handling.
For the third meeting, the concept will make its maiden trip outside Europe as the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi plays host on 12-13 December. First opened in 2009, its facilities represents the cutting edge in global motor racing design, while the 5.3km track recently underwent enhancements to improve the driving experience.
Indeed, the enjoyment of elite engineering and camaraderie are the foremost objectives of GT1 Sports Club, with limited numbers on the circuit and no competitive element. Nevertheless, the concept is inspired by racing and draws upon the vast global experience of SRO Motorsports Group. The emotive GT1 name recognises the highly exclusive nature of the eligible machinery, which would form the GT1 class of today were it homologated for competition.
What’s more, the concept has already attracted the attention of several major car manufactures, which will have the opportunity to host driving programmes and offer their clients the use of private lounges throughout corresponding Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS weekends. All three of this season's GT1 Sports Club events coincide with stops on the 2022 Clubsport Challenge tour. Now entering its third season, the programme allows owners of fast production cars and race machinery for clubsport use to get behind the wheel in a non-competitive environment. The series will make stops at Monza (24-25 May), Circuit Paul Ricard (6-7 June), Spa-Francorchamps (2-3 August), Hockenheim (5-6 September), Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (4-5 October), Yas Marina (12-13 December) and Dubai Autodrome (14 December).
In both GT1 Sports Club and the Clubsport Challenge, owners supported by private race teams can elect to enter the full season or participate in one-off events. In each case they will receive timekeeping and telemetry tools, as well as optional services such as Pirelli tyres, fuel, and car transport. Hospitality and accommodation for guests can be provided throughout the event, while hotel and personal travel services are also available on request.
